• EHS Area Manager role within civil construction

A large-scale civil construction and infrastructure services organisation is seeking an innovative and experienced leader to drive EHS performance across the region.

About the role

Our client is a national Civil construction business seeking a dynamic Area Safety Manager to drive performance in the region. You will be required to develop, implement and maintain Safety Management Systems in accordance with Group policy, international standards and regulatory bodies.

Providing expert EHS leadership, governance and support to the business, you will drive culture and set high performance expectations.

Reporting to the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager New Zealand and Pacific, this role forms part of the senior leadership team. Operating at a strategic level, you will implement initiatives and systems that will drive best practice and further develop the EHS culture.

Collaboration and influence are a key. You will work alongside regional and branch leaders, providing professional support to ensure safety performance and positive outcomes. The long-term goal is ambition is to develop safety culture creating interdependence at a branch level.

It is essential that you have a strong understanding of EHS Legislation, familiar with contemporary safety practices (safety II, BBS etc). A proven ability to engage and influence at all levels within the organisation is a must.

Duties will include:

• Develop, implement and maintain EHS strategy, initiatives and systems for the business

• Lead and foster a safe and healthy preventative working culture.

• Oversee and support the branch health and safety teams

• Lead the growth and transformation of EHS performance

• Provide strategic direction, identifying best industry practice

• Monitor and report on environmental, health and safety Performance

• Build and develop effective, collaborative and productive relationships across the organisation

• Develop wellbeing programmes, driving long term strategic plans

Skills and experience to include:

• Significant health and safety experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership function

• Recognised tertiary level safety qualification

• Excellent knowledge of the NZ legislative environment including HSE, ACC and HSNO and industry guidelines and standards.

• Experience with ACC management and claims. Familiar with the ACC Accredited Programme

• High level engagement/communication skills – able to coach, influence and drive change

• Experience of working within a high hazard, ideally construction environment

• Current, full and clean driver’s licence is essential.

• High level of business acumen and able to deliver results
