Massey University is a hugely interesting and dynamic organisation with a massive breadth and diversity of operations which include an aviation school with operational aircraft, farms, a veterinary hospital, extensive laboratory facilities using hazardous substances (including chemical, biological and radioactive), field work and student workplace learning and an extensive programme of building construction and refurbishment.

With over 3,000 staff and 30,000+ students, and major building facilities and construction across our three campuses (in Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington), there is real scope and opportunity for a recognised and widely experienced practitioner and organisational leader to make an impact in this critical area, working closely with other University functions including the University’s Student Services and the office of Governance and Assurance and engaging with the University Council - Massey governing body, who are hugely committed to the function.

You will bring very significant experience leading the HS&W function in large, complex organisations, be a recognised leader in your field, with a deep understanding of New Zealand’s legislative environment in relation to health and safety, accident insurance and return to work programmes. You will also bring a commitment and experience in contemporary and emerging organisational wellbeing practices and be able to demonstrate impact on organisational culture through your organisational savvy and advanced interpersonal communication, stakeholder engagement and team building skills. You will have a demonstrated commitment to te Tiriti and te ao Māori.
