Lance Burdett will share his insights into emergency response, why practice makes perfect, and what to look for in a high-risk environment and staying alert/vigilant across the shift/day.

Lance has 22 years of policing experience, 13 of those as a crisis negotiator, Lance combines advanced communication techniques, psychologically-based safety practices, and personal resilience tips for everyday use to keep ourselves safe and well. He brings together experience from training in New Zealand, Australia, England and the USA, operating with the elite sectors of police, prisons, emergency services, the military, and the FBI. His programmes of applied techniques are grounded in science, industry tested, and continuously reviewed to remain relevant. Lance has a Diploma in Policing, a Diploma in Business Studies and a Master of Arts majoring in Terrorism, Safety & Security. He recently published the bestselling book – Behind The Tape – and makes regular media appearances.

Captain Gary Parata will share his intimate knowledge of the approach to safety in the aviation industry, including human factors in aviation, air accident investigations and crisis response.

Gary is an airline pilot and safety investigator with Air New Zealand and has more than 16,000 hours of flight experience. He is an accredited air accident investigator and flight recorder specialist with the New Zealand Air Line Pilots’ Association and International Federation of Air Line Pilots’ Associations (IFALPA). He is an active member of IFALPA’s Accident Analysis and Prevention Committee. He is also a member of the International Society of Air Safety Investigators. Since 2002 he has lectured to aviation and other professional groups worldwide on safety management, and has represented the interests of the world’s airline pilots on both the Accident Investigation Group and the Flight Recorder Panel of the International Civil Aviation Organisation. Gary is currently studying at postgraduate level in aerospace psychology. He lives in Mt. Maunganui.
