Your Guest Speakers

Hamish Baker

Hamish, co-founder of TEG Risk, has extensive experience in machine safety engineering services, encompassing the entire risk management life cycle. His expertise includes risk assessment, concept design, machine guarding solutions, hazardous substance management, and project management, among other areas. With nearly 20 years in safety management and engineering, he has served as a safety, health, and environment manager for large food and chemical companies both internationally and in New Zealand. Hamish has further developed his specialized knowledge through various training programs and qualifications. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Technology (Hons) from Massey University, a NEBOSH Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, certification as a Functional Safety Professional from TÜV SÜD, and certification in Hazardous and Explosive Area Classification.

Joe Bain

Joe Bain holds a PhD and a BE(Hons) in mechanical engineering from the University of Canterbury, and is a Chartered Professional Engineer. He has spent his career working in engineering consultancy across a range of industries, with a particular focus on engineering safety throughout. His work includes machinery safety, equipment design and certification, and seismic assessment of plant and equipment. He is regularly engaged as an expert witness by Worksafe, law firms and insurers.

Joe was the first Chair of the NZ Society for Safety Engineering, an Engineering NZ technical group. He currently serves as vice-Chair of this group. He is also the Engineering NZ appointee to the governance group of HASANZ, the Health and Safety Association of New Zealand.

Lou Ochsner

Lou has been the Health & Safety Coordinator at Pact Packaging Temuka for the past five years, where she oversees the production of food-grade steel drums on a modern production line. With a diverse background in adventure tourism, hospitality, horticulture, and aquaculture, Lou holds a Diploma in OHS and recently completed a Post Graduate in Professional Supervision, focusing on coaching and building strong relationships with workers to achieve safety results.
