Working with angry and upset people in the workplace
Workplaces around New Zealand are reporting a significant increase in angry and aggressive staff and customers. Even before Covid the modern world was really stressful. When the disruption and challenges of Covid were added to this it has increased stress levels across the country. Often when people are stressed they can became angrier and more aggressive. Employers need to take a proactive approach to identify when stress levels are high, but they need to teach staff ways to de-escalate a tense situation.

Michael Hempseed is the author of Being A True Hero: Understanding and Preventing Suicide in Your Community. The book is being used by the New Zealand Police, Fire and Emergency NZ, GPs, Counsellors as well as many parents and teachers. He has trained everyone from army medics to social workers. Michael gained an honours degree in Psychology from the University of Canterbury in 2008. In 2016 he spoke at TEDx.
