If anybody understands the personal and lasting impact of Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) it is Jason Johnstone, CEO of Vibration Action.
Jason was employed as an operator at Tiwai Point smelter for 15 years until nerve damage to his fingers, due to constant exposure to hand tool vibration, forced him to stop work.
Upon researching the condition, and discovering how widespread and often misdiagnosed the problem is in New Zealand, Jason created Vibration Action and is now committed to raising awareness of the issue.
Dr Mary Obele loves big machines and being on worksites.
As a Specialist Occupational and Environmental Physician, she has been a doctor for over 20 years, specialising in health at work. She does medical assessments for various industries; advises on hazards and risks; consults for organisations; lectures at universities, and trains new doctors. She is also a member of the Policy and Advocacy Committee at the Royal College of Physicians, the Clinical Advisory Panel at ACC and a COVID-19 Doctors Panel.
In this session, Mary will share her knowledge and experience of HAV as a serious health hazard for the many workers who repetitively use vibrating tools.
