Overview

This workshop by Eric Holliday will examine the influence of the human cognitive decision-making process on the risk assessment process. We will look at how risk is interpreted differently based on a variety of normal human traits – and how this influences the ultimate risk management decisions taken in the workplace.

A real eye-opener, this workshop will lead to a total revamp of your present risk assessment and management program! We will work through a number of real-life case studies, combining these into a practical risk management framework.

Eric Holliday—Chief Executive FISH Safety Foundation

Originally a Marine Engineer by trade – travelling the World on tankers, bulk carriers and container vessels – Eric is the face behind the FISH Safety Foundation. Following studies in Engineering and Industrial Psychology, he has spent the last 20+ years as a safety professional, both as a manager, and as an independent consultant, specialising in the development and implementation of Safety Management Systems.An accomplished communicator, he’s conducted training workshops and seminars for a wide spectrum of industries – ranging from Off-shore Diamond Mining and Nuclear Power to Rail and Commercial Fishing – in many parts of the world, including New Zealand, Australia, the United States and Canada, as well as in South Africa and Namibia.

He is also recognised as a pragmatic Human Factors specialist, in particular, focussing on safety culture promotion, risk-taking behaviour, and the risk / human interface. He regularly presents papers at conferences in these disciplines.

Eric has been active in the maritime industry since 1993, having established the Maritime Division of an international safety consultancy group before starting Pro-Safe Marine in 1997, and has been involved in the development of Codes of Practice, fatal accident investigation and a full range of training and consultancy services to the Industry.Aware of the urgent need for safety improvements within the Industry, much of his effort and time has been directed towards Commercial Fishing.Through years of work, research and investigations, he has developed the ”crewSAFE” Safety Management System.
