On Thursday 4th July 2019, NZ Herald reported “Wild weather: Wind tears heavy panel off building in Auckland CBD”. Stuff reported “Cement panel falls from apartment building in Auckland CBD”. Newstalkzb reported “Heavy winds cause panel to fall from building in Auckland high risk”. RNZ reported “Central Auckland street still closed after panel falls of building”.
Denise Steele, Health & Safety Manager for Teak Construction Group Limited will present on the panel that broke away and dropped from the 13th floor of Victopia Apartments in Auckland’s CBD. Denise will cover the impact this had on the central city traffic and access to the CBD; safety precautions implemented due to the risk of further panels falling; consultation, co-operation, co-ordination between the various stakeholders, leadership and team work.
Background: Victopia Apartments was constructed in 2005 and is a large 14 level apartment situated on the corner of Nelson Street and Victoria Street West.
