Bevan Johnstone—Health and Safety Advisor at Central Hawke’s Bay District Council will share the work he has been doing with the backing of Waka Kotahi and all of the roading contractors in the district, which has culminated in a pilot campaign aimed at keeping our road workers safer.

The measure used to determine the extent of the problem is a modified version of an internationally validated research tool. The campaigns communication was designed based on what safety research suggests is effective: Check out episode 54 of The Safety of Work podcast.
The campaign is rooted in, and aims to fully bring the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 to life, by:
- Being driven by worker engagement and participation
- Bringing PCBUs together who owe a duty, to cooperate, coordinate and communicate for H&S
- Influencing and partnering with PCBUs who are upstream and downstream
- Influencing the 'others' who pass through our sites to take reasonable care for the H&S for other persons
